About this Project

This page answers a few questions. To return to the digital materials, click here.

What is the whole project about?

This project studies the journalism work of Isabella Beeton, during her career as a journalist and editor at the Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine, prior to her fame for the 1861 Book of Household Management. It also looks closely at patterns in the correspondence material, and explores ways that the nineteenth-century periodical press prefigures and informs our understanding of texts and collaborative knowledge production in the digital world.

[Text of Abstract will be here once approved.]

How can I use, adapt, or remix these materials in my own work?

The index allows instant access to all 27 years of the Englishwoman's Domestic Magazine.

The TXT file corpus can be used for a variety of textual analysis purposes, or expanded upon with further transcription. I would love to talk about these options with anyone interested.

The OER (open educational resources) are meant to be freely used, remixed, and put to work.

You are welcome to try them out in any non-commercial setting and adapt them to meet your needs.
